History teaching & research: bridging the theory/practice divide. Vol 2

During the 10th Michael A Sant Memorial Lecture, held last October, the Maltese HTA published the second volume of a collection of papers presented during the past lectures. The first paper by Terry Haydn focuses on the pupils’ ideas about why they do history and why these ideas matter. Christine Counsell then, discusses central concepts in the teaching of history and how these can be delivered in the classroom. Ian Phillips focuses on diversity, war, religion, and multiculturalism and explains how teachers need to help their students focus on the realities of the past. In his paper Robert Stradling examines the importance of providing different historical perspectives in the classroom. Finally George Cassar and Yosanne Vella discuss history teaching in Malta in the last one hundred years in Malta. For more information contact Dr George Cassar emailing him on george.cassar@um.edu.mt. Book costs €6
